Having got to know her, I suggested a visualisation exercise in which she was invited to imagine a calm lake on a sunny day, the sights, sounds, smells, tastes and feel of the place.
I became a part-time social work assistant in a local hospital. My qualifications were eight O levels, an unfinished diploma in Sociology, an offer of a place at London University to study part-time for the social work diploma which I hadn’t been able to take up because of my husband’s new job commitments, and ‘university of life’ experience to bring to my work. From the hospital in which I worked, I was fortunate to be offered a secondment to study full-time for my diploma in social work, which I obtained in 1979.
