Clip the splice to hold it securely until you get the next row of weaving in above it. 3. When you get to the end of the row of curls, cut and hide the end of the piece behind the under where you started. This will make a double thickness here. REMOVE FROM MOLD: 1. Twist the push-pins while removing from mold and then pull the basket off the mold. 2. All uprights on the inside of the basket are folded over to the outside and then cut just above the bottom of the last row of weaving. Using white glue, glue these folded ones down to the last row of weaving and clip to dry.
This is called double lashing. Go all the way around and through each space and back to where the lashing originally started. 3. After you have put the needle in the last space and pulled the thread inside the basket, and there are “V’s” above every upright, it is time to tie it off. Place the needle going upward between the inside rim and the inside of the basket, pull it up and over the top of the basket and then insert the needle going down between the outside rim and outside of the basket, pulling snugly.
Start the outside rim on the same side of the basket as you started the inside rim. Place it half way over just where your inside overlap ended. Clip snugly all the way around, flush with bottom of last row of weaving. 3. When you get back to where you started, overlap to the right corner of that side and put a flat point on the piece. So, both of the overlaps are on the same side of the basket. See DIAGRAM 11. This is so that you will have room for adjustment at the end of the lashing. You can lash a lot tighter than the clips will hold the rim.
